We have made tremendous progress this year with ePortfolios at BCC. The Business Information Technology department has adopted ePortfolios for first year students, which is the course I teach. In addition BIT will be adding a senior ePortfolio course and will begin to use it for assessment. After returning from the AAEEBL 2010 conference I advocated using ePortfolios for assessment purposes and the Chair of BIT has decided to utilize it starting this year. We will be in our early stages so I am sure it will take a while before the assessment goes smoothly but I am glad that ePortfolios will be used for assessment. Last year when I was thinking about it I thought using ePortfolios for assessment will take away from student centered learning but after hearing others using it at the AAEEBL 2010 conference I realized it can help students with curriculum maps as well as let them decide how they fulfilled specific learning outcomes. In short, assessment can be student focused depending on how it is carried out.
